Un cas inhabituel de duplication du canal rachidien
An unusual case of duplication of the spinal canal
Nous présentons ici une malformation congénitale très rare, dans laquelle les vertèbres Th 9 à 11 sont divisées en corps vertébraux et arcs neuraux indépendants. Le canal vertébral contenait la moelle épinière, tandis que l’espace compris entre les corps et les arches est occupé par les racines des nerfs et un cordon vestigial central, dont les relations avec la moelle épinière principale ne sont pas claires. Cette malformation a été considérée comme relevant d’un syndrome d’alcoolisme foetal, comprenant entre autres des malformations crâniofaciales et génitales. Les auteurs analysent le rôle potentiel de l’expression anormale du gène Sonic Hedgehog dans la pathogénie de cette association malformative. Rev Med Brux 2007 ; 28 : 119-22
We describe here a very rare congenital malformation, in which the vertebra Th 9 to 11 were divided into independent bodies and neural arches. The vertebral canal contained the spinal cord, whereas the space between bodies and arches was filled by nerve roots and a central remnant cord, not clearly connected to the main spinal cord. This malformation was considered as related to a fetal alcohol syndrome, with craniofacial and genitourinary abnormalities. The authors analyze, moreover the possible role of abnormal Sonic Hedgehog gene patterning in the pathogeny of this complex malformative sequence. Rev Med Brux 2007 ; 28 : 119-22
