Félicien Rops, génial dessinateur, lithographe, graveur, peintre, épistolier, est né à Namur en 1833 et décédé à Essonnes près de Paris en 1898. Son inventivité lui fit parcourir de nombreux mouvements esthétiques du réalisme au symbolisme. Il créa des êtres « vivants » inédits : chimères, hermaphrodites, etc. Le but de cet article est d’abord de définir scientifiquement le chimérisme et l’hermaphrodisme, puis d’analyser les chimères, humain-animal, originales et artistiques, dans l’oeuvre ropsienne. Félicien Rops, brilliant draftsman, lithographer, engraver, painter, letter writer, was born in Namur in 1833 and died in Essonnes near Paris in 1898.
His inventiveness took him through many aesthetic movements from realism to symbolism.
